Learners research the history of Dewsbury
In partnership with Dewsbury College, Kirklees Community History Service offered a 6 week literacy course using objects, photos and oral history recordings from the museum collections as a stimulus for finding out about the local history of Dewsbury.
The group produced an exhibition as a final product of their studies, which was displayed in the museum during Adult Learners' Week.

“I was surprised that there are things that we can touch with gloves on”
“Our group, whether absolute beginners or those who had more experience, were stimulated and interested. The story board/family tree displayed at Dewsbury Museum was the icing on the cake”.
Project officer’s comment
“During the final session members of the group were discussing the possibility of starting their own local history group as part of Sure Start, which showed quite a turnaround from the initial sessions.”
