Whole Organisational Approach

Whole organisational approach means ensuring that everyone within the organisation is involved in supporting Skills for Life / mla work. It is important to consider how your mla's policies, procedures and staff support Skills for Life. For example:
- Do you have an Adult Learning / Skills for Life policy or strategy?
- Is there a named person responsible for Skills for Life within your organisation?
- Do front of house staff understand the needs of adults with literacy or numeracy needs?
- Is Skills for Life training and support available to all staff?
- Does your organisation have methods for sharing good practice and networking with others involved in Skills for Life work?
The Vital Link has produced a toolkit to support libraries to develop their Skills for Life provision. Below is a copy of the Improvement Framework.

The Quality Initiative is a programme run by the Learning and Skills Council to support organisations to embed Skills for Life into everything that they do. In 2005/06, ten museums, libraries and archives in Yorkshire and Humberside took part in the Quality Initiative program. Below is a copy of the report on mlas involved in the Quality Initiative 2005/06, which gives more information on the process and issues that were raised.
