City and Guilds 9295 Qualification

A workshop at the National Railway Museum, York

A workshop at the National Railway Museum, York

The City and Guilds 9295 qualification in Adult Learner Support covers how to support adult learners in class, and includes a specialisation in literacy, numeracy or ESOL curriculum, and a placement in a Skills for Life class. The whole qualification is usually taken over the course of a year.

However, it is possible to gain accreditation for Unit 1 of this course, which is an option many museums, libraries and archives staff choose. The course can take two or three full days, or be spread over 6 to 8 shorter sessions. Unit 1 covers:

  • Awareness of the Skills for Life strategy
  • Understanding of what it means to have Skills for Life needs
  • Formal and informal identification of learners with a Skills for Life need
  • Familiarity with local learning provision for skills for life learners

Adult Education providers across Yorkshire offer this course throughout the year. For details of local providers, go to the training section of skillsforlifenetwork.com website.

A contextualised version of Unit 1 9295 has been developed by MLA Yorkshire in partnership with Skills for Life providers. This is a version of the course tailored to the museum, library and archive sector. This course as now been pilotted by Doncaster library staff and a tutor from Doncaster College.
