Developing Activities

Extract from the Leeds Gallery Resource Pack
Museum, library and archive (mla) activities can be used to add interest to Skills for Life classes in many different ways. For example, mla based activities can form the basis of short taster courses, which can be very effective in targeting harder to reach learners. What's Your Story? delivered a short course on activities to discover the local history of Dewsbury, using objects, photos and oral history recordings from Kirklees museum service.
mla based activities can also form the basis for a whole term's work. Examples of this include Entertainment in the Past, where learners used mla resources to research a topic, and Rock the Walls, a current course running at York College, where activities are based on the museums and library of York.
Click here for some suggestions for quick and simple mla activities that can be offered to Skills for Life learners, and provided either by Skills for Life tutors or mla education staff.
If you have any ideas for mla activities that have worked well with Skills for Life learners that you would like to share on this website, please contact us.
